Where did we come from?

Select Mortgage began in 1998 when Victoria based Pacific Coast Savings Insurance Services (now part of Coast Capital Savings) purchased Newmarket Insurance Services Ltd. in Nanaimo, BC.  In the same year, Chemainus Insurance Services was purchased from Chemainus Credit Union, enabling Pacific Coast Savings Insurance Services to then offer banking and insurance services north of just Victoria, serving mid-Vancouver Island.

In October of 1998, Pacific Coast Savings Insurance Services purchased fifty percent of Victoria based Essex and Kent, enabling the company to offer mortgage-brokering services to the Victoria area as well as up-island locations (Mill Bay, Duncan, Nanaimo, Chemainus) under the name Pacific Express Mortgage Corporation. In 1999, the remaining fifty percent of PEMC was purchased and the name was changed to U-Select Financial and Insurance Services Ltd, and was operated as a subsidiary company of Pacific Coast Savings Credit Union. 

December 31, 2000 Victoria based Pacific Coast Savings Credit Union and Richmond Savings merged to become Coast Capital Savings and U-Select remained a subsidiary company.

December 2004 became a specialized Mortgage Broker operating under the name U-Select Mortgage Services Ltd, eliminated other banking and insurance services from its operations and proving mortgage services on both Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

In December 2005, Coast Capital Savings (now based in Surrey BC after merging with Surrey Metro Savings) agreed to sell U-Select Mortgage Services to Geoff Parkin and Don Barr (both had been employed by CCSCU) and the headquarters remained in Victoria BC.

In February of 2006, U-Select annouced their partnership with Canadian Verico Mortgage Brokers Network and at the same time changed its name to Select Mortgage Corp doing business as Verico Select Mortgage.

Since the purchase from Coast Capital Savings, two new offices have been opened: a third office in Victoria in Oak Bay in 2006, an office in Campbell River later that same year; and the Nanaimo office was relocated in 2007 to brand new premises.  The number of Mortgage Brokers has continued to grow and Select Mortgage has Mortgage Brokers working throughout Vancouver Island and the lower mainland. 

Coming in 2008, two of our Victoria locations will be relocated - our Admirals Road location will be moving as will our Westshore location to retail spaces.
